Membership in the ICPSC is open to consumer product safety regulators and market surveillance authorities anywhere in the world. It exists to facilitate the exchange of information on consumer product safety issues in the area of governmental policy, legislation and market surveillance with a view to strengthening the collaboration and cooperation among consumer product safety regulatory and market surveillance agencies around the world. There is no fee or obligating document. ICPSC members come from jurisdictions in Asia, Australasia, North and South America and Europe.
The ICPSC encouraged the creation of the OECD Consumer Product Safety Working Party, which operates within certain parameters, to facilitate the implementation of a range of information sharing objectives.
The sharing and dissemination of information, the collaboration and the co-operation within the ICPSC is carried out in accordance with the applicable statutes of the respective government or regulatory agency.
The Caucus meets at least twice a year with additional meetings, if required. The Caucus held a mini-workshop on product traceability in conjunction with the ICPHSO Annual Meeting in Florida in February 2009, a major conference on product traceability and tracking labels in September 2009, a larger workshop on recall effectiveness and information exchange in February 2010 and an Open Information Session during International Product Safety Week in December 2010.
